If you\'ve been at the library recently, you know there\'s a lot happening on both levels -- and even in between! Here\'s what\'s happening on our lower level in the Youth Services Department:
The play area is getting a big makeover. There will be new interactive toys and comfy furniture for parents and children. The family restrooms will be attached to the play area. Additionally, we will also have a nursing/wellness room for patrons and staff. This room can be used by a nursing mom or staff member, or as a space for a caregiver to take a child who is feeling overstimulated and needs a quieter space to calm down. Currently under construction.
We\'ve added a Creation Center. This room is designed for all sorts of science, technology, engineering, art/design and mathematics programs. From messy to techy, kids will be able to learn, collaborate, and create. Until our expanded program room opens, this room is being used for storytimes as well.
Our new, expanded program room will host storytimes, with lots of room for active participation and expanded class sizes. This room is adjacent to the play area.
Three new study rooms have been constructed. These study rooms may be used by adults with a child or children 13 years and younger or by a child or children 10-13 years on their own. Tutors tutoring children will use the study rooms in Youth Services.
Fun, kid-friendly features have been added. From the cozy reading nooks to the new homework center to the new kids\' magazine displays, there\'s something new in Youth Services almost every week.
Be sure to check the \"blueprints\" on the plastic wall to see what is going where. It might be a little noisy right now, but our construction team is moving forward to create a more opening, inviting community space for kids and their families.
